SEO Tips Day 5 – Don’t pick the keyword with highest search volume

Okay we’ve come to Day 5 today and today we’re going to talk a little bit about Keyword Research.

When it comes to Keyword Research, the whole idea is about picking up the best keywords that will give you the best results. Ideally, while selecting a keyword you should be able to search engine optimize it so that it gives you maximum traffic. For the same reason, every keyword research tool gives you clear idea about the search volume for every keyword.

Technically, when you pick the top searched keyword, you should be able to get all the traffic from it, assuming you do the SEO right.

But the problem here is that when you select the top searched keyword, unless its a fresh and newly found niche, someone would have already dugg it, and already have a website put up on it. Or they would already be authority websites targeting against those keywords.

To check this, you could go to Google and simply search for those keywords that the keyword research tool suggested. Find out how many page results it shows, and how many websites are already targeting it (from the page title inclusion).

If there are too many, it makes sense to skip those keywords and go for the next best one that fits you, and with lesser search volume. It would be easier to search engine optimize against that keyword and get top results on them than waste your time with heavily competitive ones.

What keywords tool do you use ?
