10 Essential Adobe Air Applications for Social Media Addicts
If you’ve been wondering how the social media super heros stay connected with everything new, hot and happening on the internet, here’s a clue - with the enormous amount of time they spent skimming through stories and events on the internet, they use tools that the normal web user doesn’t. Its these tools that make them special and stand out from the crowd. Here are a couple of them I found interesting, I’m sure you will too.
1. Digg RSS Reader
Digg Headline reader using all of the digg.com rss feeds that auto updates headlines every two minutes. Great tool if you want to take a glance at what’s hot on Digg without loading the webpage.
2. Snackr
Snackr is a cool Adobe AIR application that will let you import any RSS feed/feed list and let them scroll like a TV news ticker on your desktop. Amazing app if you want to save a lot of time checking RSS feeds, instead get it delivered at your desktop.
3. FaceDesk
FaceDesk is an alternative tool to facebook on web. Save a lot of time and get productive on Facebook by adding a stand alone application exclusively for facebook. Get updates, photos everything on facebook here as well.
4. Plurker
Do you remember Plurk ? When it was launched, many people started it off but not many continued further from there. If you’re still on plurk, this application will be like the Twetdeck for Plurk.
5. Twicker
Twitter is cool and Twitter search is much cooler ! What am I talking about ? Twicker – which is an Adobe Air app that will keep searching the twitter streams for something of your choice. Just set the search term of your choice (I use @manikarthik – for seeing my mentions) and the application will keep popping up the tweets that has the search term. So you don’t have to go search twitter every time !
Another good use is to track conversations on any particular topic, for instance “google page rank update”, the app will automatically update you whenever someone mentions it in their twitter feed.
6. Feedalizr
Feedalizr is a social media desktop client that keeps track of updates from many networks such as friendfeed, twitter, facebook, Flickr, Twitpic & jaiku. Instant updates with no duplicates (duplicates are highlighted) and easy to understand and use. If you need a one stop solution to your social media needs, this is the guy.
7. Social Media Player
Its a media player based in AIR. Plays music from popular social media channels like last.fm and connects you with Twitter, Facebook etc.
8. Shrinkadoo
This app is just amazingly simple. All it does is shrink URLs using a variety of URL shortner services like Adjix, BitLy, BudURL, ChilpIt, Cligs, Digg, EasyURL, FNaweso.me, Hexio, HREFin, Idek, IsGD, Lincr, Linkm.in, MooURL, PeaURL, PiURL, PntMe, POPrl, ShortIE, ShortTo, Snurl, TinyURL, Trakz, Trim, Twurl, URLZen, W3t, Zima.

9. Flair for Facebook
Stay in touch with your Facebook friends all through the day with Flair. Flair is an application that lets you know whenever you’re poked, or someone writes on your wall, or adds you as a friend – without having to constantly check the Facebook website or your email. It doesn’t update status updates though.

No list would be complete without mentioning TweetDeck the most popular Adobe Air application for the most popular social media channel – Twitter.
